Long Buckby men’s first team made it three wins out of three as they came out on top in a thrilling 5-3 encounter against Atherstone Adders thirds. Buckby went ahead in a fairly sluggish and closely fought first half via a quick counter-attack that saw a nice two against one situation neatly finished on the reverse by striker Lee Twynholm. A second goal came shortly after when Rob Hibberd played a smart pass into the D to captain Liam Brown, who after a deft first touch, coolly slotted the ball home between the Adders’ goalkeeper’s legs.
Adders fought their way back into the game scoring a couple of quick goals leaving the scores tied at 2-2. Twynholm restored the Buckby advantage however after a thunderous strike from the top of the D from a penalty corner.

As the game became more end to end, Hibberd picked up the ball around the halfway line and began a mazy run that beat three or four Adders defenders out on the righthand side. He completed the wonderful solo effort with a calm finish into the far corner past an advancing Adders goalkeeper, who found himself in no-man’s land.

Adders grabbed another goal back making for a tense finish, but the points were sealed by captain Liam Brown who surged forward from deep and along the Adders’ baseline and finished on the reverse at the second time of asking after the keeper parried his initial shot straight back to him.
It was a satisfying win for Buckby with strong defensive performances from Joe Warne, Eamon McDowell and man-of-the-match Neil Cook. The victory keeps Long Buckby on the tails of Market Harborough seconds and Leicester City firsts – the two sides ahead of them in the Midlands Men’s Division 8 South East league table.
